Training Remotely

DSC_0162_BW_adj.jpg

I’ll show you how to build a positive relationship with yourself and your body, long term.

So many training programs are designed to get you results fast, but not in a way that is actually enjoyable
or sustainable. I show you how to get stronger — both physically and mentally — so you can see positive change
and keep it.

When you train with me,
you become someone who wants to work out,
instead of someone who thinks they should.

Hi there, I'm Rachael, and I work with everyday people to improve their strength, confidence and capacity to deal with stress — long term.

If you’re anything like most of the people I work with, you've probably tried following online workout programs, or gone hard in the gym without direction, but it never stuck. You know you feel better when you're actively working towards your health, but you've never been able to keep at it long enough to make it stick.

I understand. I've been there.

I'm genuinely happier when I'm consistently working on my health and fitness. The thing is, I didn't always know how to do this in a healthy way.

I overtrained and underfueled my body for the level of activity I was doing. Exercising became something I had to do to change my body, but it was superficial. I restricted calories, only to end up exhausted, burnt out and weaker than when I started. I didn’t feel good and it wasn’t good for me.

It started early on - my parents put me into a learn to swim program, and when I was 9 I joined squads. This meant swimming competitively every weekend and training multiple times a week.

I was extremely disciplined and never missed training. When I started to figure out who I was, I decided to pursue a career in the arts. I gave up training competitively but kept swimming for fitness and stress management because its what I knew.

After art school, I moved to New York City to do a year abroad. I couldn’t afford a gym or pool membership and looking back I can see that my mental health suffered.

So I took up running because I didn't need equipment. Unfortunately bad form and poor nutrition resulted in strain and injury. After a stint in Mexico I eventually moved back home to New Zealand, but I felt lost.

I joined a gym and became addicted to group exercise classes; always doing more and pushing my body further.

Exercise felt good, it was the one thing I could control when my other goals fell short. Using exercise as an outlet wasn’t healthy and it wasn’t long before I suffered a stress fracture to my hip and got diagnosed with depression.

I kept going, but this time I hired someone to help. It was clear that I couldn't do it on my own and needed help from someone that understood load management. Working with a personal trainer finally showed me that I could be strong but I didn't have to punish my body to achieve that.

Looking back at my story, I realise that when I don’t train in a way that is sustainable, my confidence and my body break down. It took a stress fracture to show me that I needed to slow down and build strength in a way that worked for me.

When I am training in an informed way, I do more

in other areas of my life because I feel strong.

It took me many years to learn that fitness isn’t a 12 week or 28 day challenge. I really believe that when you get it right it will serve you in a way that is sustainable for the long haul.

That's where my program comes in. It's a way of training that compliments your lifestyle,
plays to your strengths and reduces your weakness.

After completing my Cert III/IV, I worked for a gym, and while I loved training people and learning from the coaches, it didn’t align with my beliefs around training. That’s when I went all-in on my own studio. I took everything I had learned from my mentors and my own experience.

I knew these principles would work for other people too.

My first clients immediately knew that I was different. I understood macros and training load but I listened to their needs and worked with their bodies.

My programs are designed around long term solutions. I realised, that like me, my clients were getting better results when they focussed on how training made them feel, rather than how much their body weighed.

This is the foundation of my Online Program, and if you want to learn more about it, I’ve laid out the details below.

If you already know you want to work with me, click through to apply for the program now.

I show you how to:

  • Develop routine and discipline so that you no longer rely on motivation.

  • Train in the comfort of your own home in a way that is powerful. A lot of my clients start at home with dumbbells and resistance bands and work up to joining a gym and continuing my programs. The programs grow and adapt as you do (and so does your confidence!)

  • Learn to record and film key exercises so that I can analyse your form and send step-by-step video feedback. We will go over the same exercises again and again until you feel confident and you understand the movement cues.

  • Check-in with how you are feeling physically and emotionally throughout and at the end of each week.
I will adapt your programs to respond to your wellness check ins at the start of each week so that you are always training with your body not against it. (“Train to feel energised, not exhausted”)

  • Identify and make positive changes to your diet and relationship with food. You can feel energised and fuel your body correctly for training while working towards your body goals.

Training with a coach online can sound complicated. I get it. Here’s how we use my background in face to face training to set this up so it is simple and effective.

  • Your first session will be a goal setting session over the phone or, on zoom. We map out your goals, sticking points and obstacles. I help you to set a realistic and sustainable timeframe.

  • You will receive a welcome guide that lays out how the program will work and what you will need to succeed.

  • Each week you will access your workouts through an app. This will also be our main platform for communication throughout the program.

  • Your first workout will double as a movement assessment so that I can understand your body as well as your strengths and weaknesses.

  • At the end of each week you will fill in my Weekly Wellness Check In to reflect upon your physical and mental health across the training week, as well as get direction and clarification from me.

  • At the start of each week I will send you video check in as well as any relevant resources to help you with training for the week.

Now, at this point I want to say…

This is not a 12 week, 28 day or 12 month program.

There are no lock ins, but my wish is that you work with me for as long as you need to establish healthy habits and develop an understanding for how to train for your body. You will continue to get value out of this program for many years if you choose to. My only request is that you stay in the program for a minimum of 12 weeks to give yourself a chance to see it work.

Training is an investment, but not building a body that is strong and resilient now, costs more.

Most training programs are focused on short term results. With my Online Program, you will have a foundation and awareness you can take with you for life.

Within the program you get the value of a personal trainer and nutrition coach, as well as a specialised toolkit of systems, to improve your sleep, manage stress and improve your life, all of which have a significant impact on your training output and results.

Training with me in-person costs up to $270 per week. My Online Program is designed so that you can start to take control of your health for $65 per week for 12 weeks or more.

Your willingness to invest in the program says a huge amount about your readiness to take charge of your body and mind to builder a stronger you. Spending money on learning how to train sustainably is truly one of the best things that you can do.

I only take a limited number of people into my Online Training Program so that I can continue to offer personalised support and programming to each and every one of my clients.

"I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rachael. She is very welcoming; trains to your ability; spends time programming depending on your goals; and doesn't hesitate to change up sessions if tired/injured/need something different on the day. She is also well-researched and is contemporary in her training methods. She cares about her clients and that is obvious when training with her." — Susan M.

"I have greatly benefitted from the strength training with Rachael in many ways- I've gained body strength, reduced my body fat percentage and achieved my main goal of being ski fit and ready. I feel a tonne more confident and able to manage daily stresses much more easily. I'm no longer sweating the small stuff! Rachael is very knowledgeable, encouraging and easily adapts my training to suit. I highly recommend Curate Personal Training." — Sue H.
